We are visiting Japan in early October and are looking to travel in the area of Osaka/Kyoto/Mt Koya/Nagasaki.
Is the JR Sanyo pass suitable for this and can you travel on the bullet train with this pass?
Also it seems that JR do not sell 10 day passes. Is this correct?

The JR Sanyo does not cover travel to Nagasaki, which is by far the most expensive route. Depending on your other travel, a 7 day JR Pass is likely the best option if you can include the most expensive parts of your itinerary within it.
The JR Pass is sold in 7,14,21 days.
