14 days JR pass or combination of regional passes?

Hello Daniel-san,

First of all thank you so much for this service and all the support you are giving as I found the system very confusing :)

I would like to ask if a general JRPASS is worth it for our trip or should I combine regional passes? (i.e. Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass 7 days + Nara individual ticket + 5 days JR East pass)

We have 14 days and the cities we want to visit are as listed below, but the order can be different

3 days Tokyo (day trip to Kamakura)
2 days Fuji-san
2 days Kanazawa (Kanazawa to Shirakawa day trip)
1 day Narai-juku
5 days Kyoto (day trips to Nara - Osaka - Hiroshima)

Also my other question is;

Do I need to activate the JR Pass at the airport to use it for the airport line, or can I activate it later when I start traveling to other cities from Tokyo?
