Hi,

We are arriving Narita airport on 12 Apr 830am and intend to travel as such :

12/4 Narita airport to Hakone
14/4 Hakone to Toyama
14-18/4 Exploring Tateyama area, (Alpine route), Shirakawa go
19/4 Back to Tokyo
21/4 Leaving fm Narita airport

Should we (2 adults and 1 child) purchase 7 days JR to save travelling cost?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Toyama is not covered by any JR East pass (you can only go as far as Joetsumyogyo station).

As such, I recommend using a 7-day JR Pass. You can certainly make savings using the JR Pass and it is worth using one. Especially since the JR Pass will also allow you to take the Shinkansen to Hakone, Toyama and go back either through Takayama or Matsumoto from the Alpine route.

Do note that some of your travel is not included in the JR Pass, this would be local travel in Hakone, the Alpine route and bus to Shirakawa-go.

Kind regards,
Daniel
