We are already in Japan walking the Kumano Kodo trek. If I order a Kansai Hiroshima pass, can I present the email receipt to exchange for the pass.

Yes, this should be fine, as you'd be receiving an e-ticket in place of physical exchange orders, which should come to you within 24 hours.
