Hi,

We will be arriving in Narita on Jan, 3rd and will go to Osaka.
From Osaka we are planning a day trip to Kyoto.
On Jan, 8th we will go to Tokyo and on Jan, 17th we will go to Narita to take the flight back.

The Hokuriku Arch Pass seems like a good option, we are thinking on activating it on the first day and using it on the trips Narita -> Osaka, Osaka <-> Kyoto and Osaka -> Tokyo. The Tokyo -> Narita we could buy the separate ticket.

So my questions are:

  • From Kanazawa to Osaka I understood that I can't take any Shinkansen with the Hokuriku Arch Pass, but is it a single train that I can take or do I need to use more trains?
  • If I decide to buy all the tickets separately and for example my flight gets delayed, can I still take other trains?

Hi there,

There have been some changes to the Hokuriku Arch Pass - it now means that the Hokuriku Shinkansen has been extended from Kanazawa to Tsuruga, but either way once you reach Tsuruga you'll need to take a JR Hokuriku Main Line service that can take you straight to Osaka.

No, if you purchase tickets individually and miss your train you will not be able to alter the original ticket, this may be something worth considering as to why you should buy a JR Pass.

Kind regards,

Alexis

Thanks for the info Alexis.

I have been checking some online prices of tickets in services like Klook and Navitime. If I buy the tickets on the machines in the train station the price will be the same or buying online is cheaper?

Hi there,

I’d imagine buying them in Japan would be slightly cheaper considering that these sites are secondary sellers and get a commission for selling each ticket, but buying them in Japan on the day of travel poses the threat of seats being fully booked for popular services.

Kind regards,

Alexis
