Hello Team,
I have two questions and will be grateful if you can help answer:

  1. Can you advice if the Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Regional Pass will be suitable for my travel needs based on below itinerary plan or the JR Pass (all Japan) is needed to suit my travel needs?

  2. Will the JR Pass (either National or Regional) will be useful on the Alpine Route? As I am planning to go from Kyoto to Tokyo via the Alpine route (reach Tokyo via Nagano)

here is my travel itinerary:

1) 9th May : Arrive at Osaka KIX airport 16:10pm -> transfer to a Hotel booked nearby Shin-Osaka Station
2) 10th May : Osaka local sightseeing - Osaka Castle, Umeda Sky, etc.
3) 11th May : Trip to visit Universal Studios Japan - using Train transit
4) 12th May : Day Trip to Hiroshima and back to Osaka same day - using bullet Trains?
5) 13th May : Osaka --> Kyoto, check-in to Hotel near Kyoto Station, rest of the day local sightseeing
5) 14th May : Kyoto --> Nara day tour and back to Kyoto hotel same day
6) 15th May : Kyoto local sight seeing -> Gion District, Kiyomizu temple, Nijo Castle, etc.
7) 16th May : Kyoto -> Tokyo via Alpine Route (arrive same evening in Tokyo via Nagano)
8) 17th May : Tokyo --> local sightseeing,
9) 18th May : Tokyo --> Mt Fuji Day tour -> use trains, etc.
10) 19th May Tokyo --> check-out hotel, local sightseeing, depart from HND 22:55 back to home

Thanks a lot in Advance for your suggestions / answers.

Hi there,

I don't think it's worth purchasing a Hokuriku Pass in your case - while the JR Pass won't cover the Alpine Route, the train fares are relatively inexpensive compared to the shinkansen - I would recommend purchasing a 7 day JR Pass, but if you prefer purchasing your tickets individually that's also perfectly fine.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Alexis-san,
Regarding the Alpine-Route on 16th May, on my itinerary, can you advice if the JR Pass will be able to be used on what parts:
1. can I use JR Pass to get from Kyoto to Dentetsu-Toyama or Tateyama Station
2. similarly, upon Exit, can i use JR pass from Ogizawa or Shinano-Oamchi Stations to got to Tokyo / Shinjuku using Shinkansen.
Please note i wish to use Baggage forwarding service, so i wil need to pickup bags at Shinano-Omachi.
