I am travelling on May 1st with my son (12 years old) from Narita Airport to Osaka and then on May 3rd back to Tokyo where we will be doing sightseeing until May 6th. After that we will take the train to Narita Airport. Is it worth to buy a JR Pass or are there any regional passes? We though want to take the fastest possibility to Osaka and back.

Hi Leila and David,
A 7-day Japan Rail Pass is worth considering when you do a return trip Tokyo - Osaka. The cost of the pass is about the same as the price of a return ticket on this route. Now you get unlimited travel at a similar price point.
On the route Tokyo - Osaka, the JR Pass does not cover the Nozomi train service, but you can use the Hikari Train service on the same route. The only difference is the amount of stops along the way. Meaning the Hikari takes about 20min longer on the same route.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. Is the Hikari train also a fast train? We would really like to travel with one of these fast trains since we want to experience such a train and we also want to be as fast as possible in Osaka, since we have a long journey from Switzerland to Japan.

Yes, the Hikari is a very fast train. The name is Hikari Super Express, can't get much better than that :)
