Hi, we are travelling in Japan in May for 17 days .
We are flying into NRT airport and we are spending the first 4 days in Tokyo .
I am wondering should we activate the JR pass when leaving tokyo to explore.
Can we get a rail pass to get us from the airport to our hotel in tokyo and then around tokyo before setting off ?
Our intended itinery is TOKYO > NIKKO > KYOTO > OSAKA > WAKAYAMA > NAOSHIMA and if we can fit it in KYUSHU .
its our first time to Japan so any advise on best rail passes or our itinery would be welcomed .
Thanks
Liz
17days travel on a 14 day JR pass
Hi there,
To get around Tokyo and from the Airport to your hotel, I'd recommend purchasing a prepaid travel card such as a SUICA or a PASMO. I think purchasing a JR Pass to be activated when leaving Tokyo is a good option, as it'll be approximately a 14-day period and if your planning on reaching Kyushu then it's likely that it'll be the most cost-effective option.
Hope this helps!
Alexis
That sounds great , ill look into those .
