Hi,

We are wondering which pass to buy. Could you please advise us the best option?
Day 1: (4 nov) arrive Tokyo
Day 2: Tokyo
Day 3: Nikko
Day 4: Tokyo
Day 5: Hakone (Hakone Free Pass)
Day 6: Hakone
Day 7: Kyoto
Day 8: Kyoto
Day 9: Kyoto
Day 10: Nara
Day 11: Hiroshima / Miyajima
Day 12: Miyajima
Day 13: Osaka
Day 14: Osaka
Day 15: Back to the airport

Can we do the 7 days pass after Hakone or do you recommend the 14 days pass?
Would love to hear from you.

ps if you have more information about the name of the stations etc. also welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

You will be traveling a good amount and I would recommend using a 7 day JR Pass from Day 2 to day 15. This way you can use the Shinkansen to Nikko (by far the fastest option) and also use the Shinkansen to Odawara for access to Hakone. This way you save time going to Hakone and you can also buy a cheaper version of the Hakone Free Pass starting at Odawara instead of Shinjuku.

The JR Pass will cover all your remaining travel after Hakone, making for convenient travel.

For station names, they are basically the same as the city names. E.g. Tokyo has Tokyo station and Kyoto is just Kyoto station. For Osaka, the Shinkansen station is called Shin-Osaka. The only one that is really good to know is Odawara station, this is the Shinkansen station for Hakone. From where you can travel directly to Kyoto or Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
