Hello!

I'm a bit confused on which train rides would not be covered by the JR Pass or if there are alternate, slightly longer travel options that would be covered for the pass. I am also debating on the 7 or 14 day pass as well as if the Green Pass is worth it since from what I could tell, there isn't always Green cars?

This is my itinerary:
- flying into Narita on Sept 28 - Hakone on the 30th - Kyoto on the 1st - Kobe on the 4th - Osaka on the 6th - Kagoshima on the 8th - Tokyo on the 10th

However, we are also thinking of taking a flight from Osaka to Kagoshima and a flight from Kagoshima to Tokyo to save some time. Is the rail pass worth it? And which one?

Hi there,

Travel between all the cities you want to go to is covered by the JR Pass. Only locally may you need further transport, such as within the Hakone area.

A JR Pass would be worth it if you go to Kagoshima by rail (and even more so if you go back to Tokyo) but may not be the best option if you fly both legs.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
