Hi

My family of 5 (including 3 kids age at 13, 8 & 4) are going to stay at Universal Studio hotel in early Dec.

We planned to visit 1-day Tokyo Disneyland and return on the same day. The rest of the days will be in Osaka and probably 1-day trip to Kyoto.

Please adv should we get JR pass as per my itinerary below :-

10 Dec - Arrive in Kansai Airport
11 Dec - Universal Studio Japan
12 Dec - Free & Easy in Osaka
13 Dec - 1-day trip to Tokyo Disneyland (2-way by bullet train or 1-way bullet train & return on Willer bus?)
14 Dec - Free & Easy (Kaiyukan Aquarium)
15 Dec - 1-day trip to Kyoto
16 - 17 Dec - Free & Easy in Osaka (local shopping & eating trip) & depart for M'sia

Thanks a lot!

Hi there!

Normally a 7 day JR Pass covers itself with 1 return trip from Osaka to Tokyo, so assuming you get a JR Pass from the 11-17th, your total costs will be:

  1. Osaka > Universalcity: ¥170 (15mins, 6km)
  2. Universalcity > Osaka: ¥170 (11mins, 6km)
  3. Osaka > Tokyo: ¥13,950 (194mins, 556km)
  4. Tokyo > Maihama: ¥210 (15mins, 12km)
  5. Maihama > Osaka: ¥13,960 (231mins, 569km)
  6. Osaka > Kyoto: ¥540 (29mins, 42km)
  7. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥540 (28mins, 42km)
  8. Osaka > Kansai airport: ¥3,340 (57mins, 64km)

JR ticket cost: ¥32,880 for 8 legs

In addition to the savings, you'll also have the flexibility to add to your travel if needed during the 7 day validity period (for example Nara, Hiroshima or a trip to Kinosaki Onsen).

Hope this helps!

Hi

Thanks so much for your prompt reply!

If I purchase the 7-day JR pass, does it also cover the Kansai area pass?

Thanks again!

Hi there,

Yes - the 7 day nationwide JR Pass covers all JR lines in Japan (and includes the lines covered by the Kansai Area Pass).

Hope this helps!

Hi there!

Within Osaka for Osaka Castle you should aim for OsakaJoKoen JR station. For the Science museum I recommend using the subway Blue Yotsubashi line to travel to Higobashi station. You can find more on access details at the following locations:

Hope this helps!
