Hi
I will be traveling to Japan and staying for 16days and nights
We land middle march.
Plan
Tokyo day 1-4
Kyoto day day 4-6
Hiroshima day 6-8
Osaka and Nara day 8-11
Fujikawaaguchiko day 11-14
Tokyo day 14 -16
I would like to reserve seats. Shouldn’t need luggage too as hoping to take back packs for travel.
Some days l am travelling on a weekend so thought that might be busier therefore better to book as far in advance as possible.
Could you please advise me if a JR national pass is better value. Or should l get individual rail passes.
If so which rail passes should l get for my stay.
Many thanks

Hi there,

You may want to consider the following options:

1) 14-day JR Pass: Best for maximum convenience throughout your trip.
2) 7-day JR Pass + individual tickets: The most cost-effective choice.

Overall, a 7-day JR Pass would be highly cost-effective if activated on Day 4 (leaving Tokyo) and used through Day 10. This covers your major long-distance travel to Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka.

Once you arrive in Japan, you can reserve seats at any JR Station ticket office (Midori-no-madoguchi) or via the ticket machines.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko

Can l ask if we buy a 14day rail pass and activate it on day of arrival. Can we use this pass on JR lines in Tokyo to see sights.
Of do you think its cheaper to use Suica card around Tokyo then when we travel onwards to use jr pass for bullet trains.
Thank you in advance

Hi there,

Yes, you can visit many major sights using the JR Yamanote Line in Tokyo. However, please keep in mind that the pass does not cover the Tokyo Metro.

For travel within Tokyo, a Suica card would be convenient.

Kind Regards,

Mariko
