Hi

I am planning to visit Japan.

I will be spending 3 days in Tokyo
2 days in Kyoto
2 days in Osaka
1 day in Hiroshima
1 day in Nara

I just wanted to find out if I purchase the JR pass. Will I be able to use it to get around in Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Nara to visit monuments, or does it just cover the major city to city.

Hi there,

The JR Pass fare will come out to be slightly more than purchasing tickets individually, so your most cost-effective option would be purchasing your tickets individually if you're happy to organise that.

The JR Pass will cover some intra-city travel, including basic metro travel in Osaka, Tokyo and some JR Buses, but typically most public transport networks in cities are privately owned and so you'll need to purchase some kind of prepaid travel card such as a SUICA or PASMO card.

Kind regards,

Alexis
