Can't reserve seats online?? Really?

Daniel-san,

Our first time to Japan; having read several guidebooks now, and in light of the fact than Japan and Tokyo specifically is one of the most technologically advanced places on Earth, is it correct that you can't reserve Shinkansen seats in advance online? I.e. only at a station? Does it not strike you that if true this is incredibly archaic and cumbersome? You can reserve a seat at a movie in advance here in the US in about 4 seconds...

Help me understand; thanks!

Hi there,

It's not up to me, but yes, that's how it works. You'll find it more in Japan, where they build really amazing hardware (like trains) but software is stuck in the 90s.

It is changing but very slowly.

All the best,
Daniel
