Hi,

I am traveling to Japan in February to March 2019 with my son who is born in December 2013. He therefore turns 6 in December 2019, but is not yet 6 during the period I am in Japan. Does he need a child JR pass?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi there,

No, as long as he is below the age of 6 when you are traveling. Are you traveling at any point in Japan when he has become 6, then a child pass or ticket is required?

Note that some limitations apply, for instance, he will not be entitled to his own seat and you are expected to keep your child on your lap when trains are busy.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
