Is buying a 14 day rail pass worth it for my itinerary?

Hello,

I’m doing a round trip with the route of Tokyo -> Osaka -> Hiroshima -> Kyoto -> Tokyo over a period of 17 days. We will also be doing the odd trip to Mount Fuji, Nara and Miyajima, as well as to and from the airport in Tokyo.

We have been looking at the 14 day pass but aren’t sure if it would be worth buying or if it would be cheaper to buy individual journey tickets.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated please. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Hi there,

Because you're making multiple journeys using the Shinkansen bullet trains, as well as other trips using JR Operated lines it is likely that purchasing a JR Pass would be worth it. Note that because your trip is 17 days long you'd have to research which journeys would be the most expensive and then have your JR Pass activated then. You can also look into a Kansai Hiroshima Pass, which would cover travel in Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nara and Miyajima for 5 days.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
