Hi, my wife and I are travelling to Japan from early March for 10 weeks. We are flying into Sapporo, to Niseko for 3/4 days skiing, then stop overs to Hirosaki, Morioka, Kakunodate, down to Tokyo,. We’ll have some trips out and around Tokyo, then slowly heading further south,, maybe 5/10 days trekking the Kumano Kodo trail. We don’t intend to travel back to any previous location (except maybe Tokyo from day trips etc) , but will stop over for a night or three at the major places of interest as we head down south (Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima etc etc), ultimately catching the hydrofoil to Korea (we eventually fly out of Seoul to home). Based on this rough itinerary, would you consider the JR rail pass worthwhile? If so, As we are going for an extended period of time, would it be best to purchase 2 x 21 day passes. (My concern is if we are not travelling each day, then we are not getting value....for eg, 10 day Kumano Kodo).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Brian
