Hi!

I could use some help whether to use a 7 or 14 days Japan Rail Pass.
Our itinerary will be the following:
Day 1: Arrival at Haneda Airport & staying in Tokyo
Day 2 - 7: Staying in Tokyo and probably traveling to two places nearby
Day 8: Tokyo - Kyoto
Day 9 - 12: Staying in Kyoto and traveling to Nara for one day
Day 13: Kyoto - Osaka
Day 14: Staying in Osaka
Day 15: Departure at Kansai Airport
Thank you so much for all your help!

Kind regards,
Machteld

Hi there!

In general a 7 or 14 day rail pass is only worthwhile if you do a lot of travel (something like a return Tokyo <> Osaka usually makes a 7 day pass worthwhile for example). Based on your itinerary you won't spend enough to make a 7 day pass cost effective and so I recommend you purchase single JR tickets as needed. Please note that if you decided to do a day trip, such as a return to Hiroshima while you are in Kyoto/Osaka, then a 7 day rail pass will certainly be a good choice.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mari!

You have really been a great help! In the end, my brother and I are thinking to visit Hiroshima as well. So we will take the 7 day pass. Thanks!!

All the best,
Machteld
