Hi, I and my husband will travel to Japan on June 2013 for 7 days. First we will arrive at Tokyo ( Haneda Airport at 11 pm). Our trip will be Tokyo(2days) - Osaka/kyoto (2 days) - Toyama ( tateyama kurobe alpin route) 2 days - tokyo. I am planning to buy JR 7 days pass. Is it include the alpin route pass? Can suggest the best itenary too? Thank you.
JR pass for alpine route
Hi there!
Sounds great!
The JR Pass will not cover the alpine route though it will get you to and from Toyama and Shinano Omachi with no problems. In the middle of this for the route you'll need to use a variety of buses and cable cars. Here is an absolutely fantastic PDF on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route prepared by the Japan National Tourism Organisation. It includes a wealth of information, including hiking information and tourism office contact details. I highly recommend you take a look!
I think your itinerary as listed looks like a lot of fun. I recommend travelling to Toyama via Nagoya and Takayama from Kyoto - you'll have great scenery as you cross the Japan alps on the way to Toyama. On the other side of the route, if you make it to Shinano Omachi I recommend you travel up to Nagano and get the shinkansen bullet back to Tokyo rather than travelling on non-bullet trains.
Hope this helps!
Thank you Mari. Is the 7days pass covered off the itenary ? Please inform me clearly. Thanks.
Hi there!
Yes, the 7 day pass covers all of your itinerary except for the alpine route itself.
Hope this helps!
