I will arrive in Japan on Dec 27th at night and would like to confirm if I buy the JR Pass on Sept 27th, as recommeded in the forum, it will still count under the 3 months period to activate it.
If not, is there any way to buy the JR Pass with the old price and activate it on Dec 27th night at Narita?

Yes, this works. The only one part here to keep in mind that your pass has to be issued on the 28th or after.
