Hi,

Confused to which option is cheaper : JR rail pass (14 or 21) or separate regional rail passes? Itinerary is as follows:

15th October : Haneda Airport to Tokyo (Komagata, Taito-ku)
16th - 21st October: Tokyo. Possibly day trip to Kamakura.
22nd October: Tokyo (Taito-ku) to Toyama
23rd October: Toyama - Shinano-Omachi (Tateyama Kurobe Alpine route option ticket)
Shinano-Omachi to Matsumoto 24th October: Matsumoto - Takayama (Three star route option ticket - bus)
26th October: Takayama - Kanazawa (Three star route option ticket - bus)
Kanazawa to Kyoto. 27th - 30th October: Kyoto. Day trip to Nara. Possibly day trip to Hiroshima.
31st October: Kyoto to Osaka
3rd November: Osaka to Lake Kawaguchi-ko
5th November: Lake Kawaguchi-ko to Haneda airport

Kind Regards,
Lisa

Hi there,

I would recommend using a 14-day JR Pass, this is assuming that you make the trip to Hiroshima. As the Shinkansen fare from Kyoto - Hiroshima will make (or break) the value of your pass.

You can also use your JR Pass for travel from Matsumoto - Takayama - Kanazawa, thus not having to travel by bus or pay the fare for this part.

Kind regards,
Daniel
