Hi there,

Getting to Tottori is quite easy from Osaka or Kyoto station - you can take the Super Hakuto Limited Express directly to Tottori Station.

Amanohashidate isn't on any JR-operated railway lines, and so you'll need to take a route that with additional fees. I would suggest going from Kyoto, where you'll need to get to Araga-kashinokidai located on the San'in line (included in the JR Pass), and then purchase a ticket for the Tantetsu line, that you'll need to get to Miyazu Station and then to Amanohashidate. You'll pay about 700 YEN (under £4) in additional fares for this so this shouldn't be a dealbreaker for purchasing a JR Pass.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
