Hello!
We are planning to visit Japan for the first time this September, and we are staying for approximately 14 days there.

Here are some of our rough plans for our trip and I was wondering if the JRPass is worth it or not.

  • We are arriving in Narita Airport and go to Tokyo
  • Stay around Tokyo and moving along the railways (not sure if covered by JRPass or not) for around 2 days or so.
  • Tokyo -> Osaka and stay there for approximately a week and moving along the local railways (also not sure if covered by JRPass).
  • Osaka -> Tokyo for 5 days or so with the same local railways
  • Tokyo -> Narita airport

When I saw the multiple places we would like to visit in both Tokyo and Osaka, I was wondering if JRPass would be worth it to use it there. Or is JRPass only covering the travels from Narita, to Tokyo, and to Osaka and vice versa?

Thank you!

Hi there,

I think a 7-day Japan Rail Pass is worth considering if you make a return trip Tokyo - Osaka within the 7-day period. Local JR lines in cities like Tokyo and Osaka are covered, so you can likely add extra travel savings there.

For full coverage, see:

Kind regards,
Daniel
