My friends(6 People) from Germany will travel from Hakone to Hiroshima on 12 th August and will go to Kyoto on 14th and then to Osaka on 16th.
As they will arrive in Japan at 9th
August all Shinkansen must have been booked already for Obon holiday.
Is it possible for them to travel with normal train from Hakone to Hiroshima with Japan Rail pass? How is the access and how long does it take? Or is it better not to biz the Japan rail pass in that case?
Or all trains are also not available to book even normal train in that time?
Please let me know.

Hi there,

Trains can be booked upto 30 days in advance, in other words, no seats for August can/have been booked yet.

That said, you should be fine getting on the Shinkansen during Obon, given that you'd make seat reservations 2-4 days in advance and are a bit flexible with what train you get on.
