Can I reserve shinkansen seats online rather than using a ticket machine at the station? If so, how do I do this?

Hi there,
If you have a JR Pass, you are able to make JR-East reservations online but for the rest of your reservations you’ll have to make them in-person; note that for all of reservations you’ll have had to have activated the pass at a JR ticket desk in Japan already. The JR East reservation site can be found here.

Thankyou. I used the link provided above, but there were no options to reserve a shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto. Can you advise me what I need to do to find this train line/route?
