I am travelling to Japan in April to meet with my grandaughter who is not entitled to a JR Pass but we want to do a Round trip with stopovers from TOYKO - KOYTO STOPOVER- HIROSHIMA STOPOVER - TOYKO.my question is will my grandaughter be allowed to travel on the Shinkansen trains with me. And if so how much would the fare cost for her ticket. I will have purchased my pass before I arrive. Thank you. Jean

Hi there,

You can, of course, travel together, when reserving your seats just tell the staff that you want to be seated together. Your ticket will be free with the JR Pass, while your granddaughter can pay the normal fare at the same time.

The train fare can depend on a couple factors but expect to pay around:
Tokyo - Kyoto 14.000yen Kyoto - Hiroshima 11.000yen Hiroshima - Tokyo 18.000yen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
