hello JR
we are planning for our first Japan trip this April. I will mention my itinerary and the mode of transport and have a few questions regarding the same.
17 th reach Narita airport at 8 pm. then need to travel to Shinjuku for Hotel stay. day 2 - 18th April - we will be taking a guided Tokyo day tour and also activate the 7 day JR pass
day 3 - 19th April - we plan to go to Mount Fuji. is it possible to go there with the JR pass and what would be the correct time to start and which train should we take? or is it advisable to take a day trip from Tokyo and back by evening.
Day 4 - 20th April - We plan to go to Ashikaga for the flower park. will my JR pass be useful to travel. Can I take a train from Shinjuku to Ashikaga? By evening we plan to start from Ashikaga to Toyoma and reach there for night stay. which train should I take and will it be covered by JR pass.
Day 5 -21April - We will be taking the Alpine Route for the day. I know I have to purchase a Alpine route pass for the same which we will buy after coming to Japan.
Day 6 - 22 April - We start to Kyoto and from there to Nara and by evening back to Kyoto
Day 7 - 23 April - Day trip in Kyoto
Day 8 - 24 April - Start from Kyoto to Hiroshima for a day trip and by evening reach Fukuoka
Day 9 - 25th April - Start back Home from Fukuoka

is my itinary ok? which trains should I be taking? will the JR pass be useful in Ashikaga.

Thank you in advance for the help

Hi there,

To start with Fuji, you'll find the details here;
http://www.jrpass.com/blogs/itinerary-tip-mt-fuji

For access to Ashikaga park see:
https://www.ashikaga.co.jp/english/access.html

For travel to Toyama, return to Tokyo station the way you traveled to Ashikaga park. From Tokyo, you can use the Hokuriku Shinkansen directly to Toyama.

For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included. Your itinerary in general looks good to me, just be sure to work out a schedule for your self. For instance what time you want to arrive in Kyoto.

Also good to know for planning is that the station for Fukuoka is called Hakata.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
