What pass(es) should we buy if we are staying in:

kansai airport->shirahama(1 day)
shirahama->nara(1 day)
nara->kyoto (2 days)
kyoto->arimaonsen(1 day)
arimaonsen->osaka (5 days)

Also, we have some further questions, where can we use these pass(es) (e.g. bus?type of train?) and where can we buy these pass(es)?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Scarlet!

Lets first take a look at your projected ticket costs:

  1. Kansai airport > Shirahama: ¥4800, (134mins, 143km)
  2. Shirahama > Nara: ¥5960, (177mins, 204km)
  3. Nara > Kyoto: ¥690, (44mins, 41km)
  4. Kyoto > Arimaonsen: ¥4160, (82mins, 92km, incl. non-JR parts)
  5. Arimaonsen > Osaka: ¥2630, (67mins, 48km, incl. non-JR parts)
  6. Osaka > Kansai airport: ¥3340, (57mins, 64km)

Approx. JR ticket costs: ¥14790

Based on these costs I think I'd recommend:

Day 1-4: Kansai WIDE area pass @ ¥7000 for 4 days (saving ¥4450)
Day 5--end: This is a little more tricky as there is no simple answer. Possibly look into the Kansai Thru Pass (coverage map) to get you around Kyoto by subway/bus and to Arima onsen and back, or look into a ICOCA prepaid card to use until you leave from Osaka.

You can purchase all these from Kansai Airport, or online. Please check the links for more information.

Hope this helps!
