We note that 30th of December is a busy period for Japan Rail with public holidays.
We have purchased a JR Pass Green pass but want to ensure we can travel on the 30th of December from Kyoto to Nozawa Onsen. Likely to Iiyama as closest station.

Hi there,
You can begin making seat reservations once you have arrived in Japan and have activated the exchange order for the JR Pass, setting an activation date. My suggestion would be to make reservations as soon as you can to ensure that you can find seats available for the day.
