We're planning to travel in Japan from 24/12 till 06/01. Can you please advise if we have to reserve seats on the train during this period? Especially long train trips from Tokyo to Osaka?
And do we have to reserve a seat on 03/01 from Myoko Kogen (Ski area) to Tokyo?

Yes, you will need to reserve seats in this period for sure. The busiest is around new years day. You will be find though if you do so on that day that you arrive in Japan (24/12). Just make all your reservations then, so you don't have to worry at all. Besides, they are all free with the Japan Rail Pass.
