The Validity rules for the JR Pass are a little confusing regarding which Shinkansen trains are valid for use with the Pass. The rules states that all bullet trains except the Nozomi and Mizuho can be used with the pass. But then it goes on to say that "the Sakura and Hayabusa lines have been proven valid". So are the Sakura and the Hayabusa the ONLY Shinkansen lines that can be used with the pass, or can other trains like the Hikari also be used? Thanks for any clarification!
Sakura and Hayabusa lines valid?
Hi there!
I'm sorry the validity rules are a little confusing!
For the Japan Rail Pass, all shinkansen bullets are valid except for the Nozomi and Mizuho services. If you wish to use Nozomi and Mizuho the full charge will be applied. All other bullet trains can be freely used.
This means that the vast majority of bullet trains are available for you to use to travel Japan with a rail pass.
I think the line "the Sakura and Hayabusa lines have been proven valid" should be written: "the Sakura and Hayabusa lines are also valid"
Hope this helps!
