Hi. I have been told by my Japanese friend - who asked Japan Railways - at Tokyo Station that it is imperative that we reserve seats before we leave the UK otherwise we will not get any. This situation has only arisen this year. Please, please, I need to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto and Osaka to Tokyo and I might not get a seat. My daughter and I have suitcases (not oversized). Why can't we reserve seats . Are you aware of this situation? It renders your vouchers useless - I should have bought through the official JR site - I thought I was - I feel that I have been mis-sold.
Thank you.
Hi there,
I'm sorry you feel that way. From Tokyo to Osaka, you'll be able to reserve seats online using the Eki-Net JR East site, but to reserve from Osaka to Tokyo I suggest doing it at a machine as soon as you land, as you'll be booking it in advance so you're very likely to find a seat. There are also unreserved seating Shinkansen carriages.
Kind regards
Alexis
