Seat reservations - when can I book?

Hello! Can you please advise if I make a seat reservation (within valid period of JRPass) prior to the activation date? For example: my JR Pass becomes active on 29 March, but I know I will be travelling on a busy route on that day. Can I book my seat a couple of days before the pass becomes active?

Thanks, I know how to make reservations but my question is: Can I make reservations before activation date?.
