Hello,

My family of 3 will be travelling around Japan. Itinerary is:
Day 1 arrival in Tokyo
Day 4 Tokyo to Osaka
Day 7 Osaka to Kyoto
Day 10 Kyoto to Tokyo

Question 1: Should we get the JR 7-day pass?
Question 2: Where do we book our train seats? Can be done in advance?

Hi there,

1.) Yes, a 7-day JR Pass will be good value for travel from Day 4 to Day 10. The cost of a return ticket Tokyo - Osaka/Kyoto is similar to the price of a 7-day pass. In other words, any additional travel you cover with it, is basically free.

2.) Seats can be booked in person, at any JR ticket office, see:

Kind regards,
Daniel
