Should I purchase the JR Pass just for Tokyo?

Hi,

I have 2 questions which I hope you could assist me:

  1. I am travelling to Japan (Tokyo) next week for 7 days, mainly sight-seeing the famous sights of Tokyo only.
Will it be worthwhile for me to purchase the JR Pass for 7 days? Or should I purchase individual single tickets?

  2. Saw the prices indicated as $436 for 7 days. I have 2 adults and 1 child, the total cost will come up to $1,090. What is the currency of this amount? I am confused because I see that it says the price summary indicated that final sale is in UK pounds. So the final amount of $1,090 that I am going to pay is in UK pounds or some other currency?

Hope you could assist me in my questions urgently.

Thanks!

Hi there!

Here are some answers for you:

  1. The JR Pass is a great ticket if you are doing long distances, such as a return to Kyoto or Osaka from Tokyo, however if you are just travelling within Tokyo I do not recommend the 7 day JR Pass as you will mainly be travelling within the Metro area. You should look into discount Tokyo metro tickets and possibly the Kanto Area Pass if you think you'll be venturing a little further outside the capital.
  2. If you are based in Singapore (guessing from your username!), we will display the equivalent prices in SGD for guidance based on the current exchange rate, however the final prices charged will be in GBP (UK pounds) so the amount charged to you will ultimately depend on the exchange rate of your bank or credit card company.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response! : ) The info certainly helps a great deal.
However, if do not purchase the JR Passes, is there a way to get to Tokyo Disneyland or Disney Sea with just the Tokyo Metro Subway tickets?

If using the Tokyo Metro Subway tickets and transfer to a JR line to get to Tokyo Disneyland or Disney Sea, can the JR ticket be bought off the counter?

What would be your best advice or approach?

Thanks and regards.

Hi there!

For Tokyo Disneyland/Sea, you'll need to use the JR lines to Maihama. Here's a sample itinerary for you from Tokyo station. As you can see it take 13 minutes and costs ¥210, so it will not break the bank. You can purchase the tickets to Maihama at the JR ticket office at Tokyo station.

Hope this helps!
