Hello, I would like to see if you can help me determine what would be most convenient for my trip. I will be traveling to Japan for 14 days with my family, consisting of 4 adults. We will be visiting different destinations as follows:

Day 1: Narita Airport to Tokyo (from day 1 to day 3, we will be staying in Tokyo).
On day 4: We will travel from Tokyo to Kyoto(we will stay in Kyoto from day 4 to day 5).
Day 6: We will travel from Tokyo to Osaka.
Day 9: From Osaka to Nara and back to Osaka.
Day 10: From Osaka to Itsukushima Shrine, then Okunoshima, and back to Osaka.
Day 11: Osaka to Awaji and back to Osaka.
Day 12: We will travel from Osaka to Tokyo.
Day 13: Tokyo to Ghibli Museum and back.
Day 14: Tokyo to Narita Airport.

I would greatly appreciate knowing if it would be better for me to purchase the 14-day JR Pass or if buying tickets directly.
Thanks in advanced

Hi there,

Most of your itinerary is covered by the JR Pass. It therefore makes sense for you to purchase a JR Pass. Please note, however, that to visit Okunoshima and Awaji you'll have to take a ferry that isn't included in the JRPass. The good news is that the ferry cost ranges from about 300 to 1000 YEN, or about £1.50-5.50.

The ferry tickets can be purchased at nearby stations - also note that the Miyajima ferry is from Hiroshima.

If you have any more queries about your itinerary you can always refer to our JR Fare Calculator, which tells you the location and cost of travel between each JR station. This can be found here:

Hope this helps!
