My son is a graduate student in Tokyo and has a student visa for two years. My wife and wish to travel to Japan in August to spend some time with our son. We would like to go to Tokyo, Matsumoto City, Kyoto, and Osaka for a total travel time of 14 days. My wife and I could get a Japan Rail Pass for all this travel but what about our son? What would be the best was to accomplish these travel plans traveling together?
Thank you
Student Travel question
Hi there,
Generally it would be easiest to buy normal tickets for your son, when traveling with you. He would not qualify for the JR Pass due to the visa status.
I think that it would also make most sense for you to buy normal tickets. A JR Pass would work great if you would make a return to Tokyo but now you would need more to make economic use of the JR Pass.
Enjoy your trip!
Daniel
