Tokyo & Hokkaido trip

Hello,
I will be in Tokyo for 4 days then flying to Sapporo and traveling in Hokkaido (including cities of Hakodate) for 4 days, then back to Tokyo for 1.5 days before flying out of Narita.

I’m trying to figure out the best value for JR pass. Should I do a regional pass or 14 day JR pass that covers all of Japan?

Thank you
Rae

Hi Rae,

The best match I can think of for your itinerary is the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass. It includes travel down from Sapporo to Tokyo and is lower prices than a 14 day JR Pass.

You can also easily make the stop in Hakodate with it.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel!
Does the east-south Hokkaido pass cover Sapporo? If not, is it better to just purchase train fares as we travel for areas outside the east-south Hokkaido area? Or would the overall JR pass that covers all Japan be our best bet?

Thank you!
Rae

Hi Rae,

Travel to Sapporo is covered. I think this is the best option in terms of pricing a 7 day JR Pass could be a good alternative but would cost a bit more.
