Hi all,

We’re going to Japan for our honeymoon and we were considering getting the Rail Pass but as we don’t know much about Japanese rail we are not sure if this would be right for us.

We’re arriving at Tokyo airport and from there we need to get to the city centre on 7 Jan. then on 10 Jan we travel on bullet train to Kyoto. Then on 12 we’re travelling from Kyoto to Hakone and around the area of Mr Fuji and then back from Hakone to Tokyo on 17th.

Would the rail pass be a good choice to go with and would it cover all the travel legs and especially around Hakone and Mt Fuji are?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Japan is absolutely fantastic for a honeymoon visit.

A 7 day JR Pass will be a good option if you travel Tokyo - Kyoto - Hakone - Tokyo with this. The cost of the JR Pass is similar as a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto, now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.

It would cover travel between all these places but you made need additional travel within cities/Hakone.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
