Hello,

I am taking a 2 week trip stopping at the following locations Tokyo, Nagano and Kanazawa. Returning from Kanazawa to Tokyo.

Is getting the JR Rail worth it? Or am I better off just booking the tickets separately?

Is there usually many tickets available for purchase on the day at the ticket office, or is it better to pre book the tickets online?

Do ticket prices tend to fluctuate depending on particular dates, days of the week, demand, availability, when you purchase the ticket (pre book vs on the day)?

Thank you very much for your help and advice in advance,

Hi there,

I think a 14-day JR Pass would not be cost efficient here, perhaps if you did some more travel.

Ticket prices in Japan are basically the same year round, the only fee that changes a bit on seasonality is a seat booking fee, and this is just a few hundred yen. So it does not matter.

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
