Toyana to Takayama and back

Hi Daniel:

I am "fighting" Hyperdia while I am trying to figure out train options (w. a JR Pass) from Toyama to Takayama and back. I selected Toyama Station for departure and Takayama for destination for Oct 31. I get "Route not found".

I am also using https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Toyama/Takayama, a helpful website. After entering the departure and destination, it shows me that Japan Railways Limited Express is available and it takes 1h 26 min and then it takes me to Hyperdia. Hyperdia comes up with quite a few options (some non-stop, some with 1 stop), but when starting from rome2rio.com, there is no option to pick the date and time, so it assumes today and the current time which I cannot change...

What am I doing incorrectly when I am going directly to Hyperdia? Why does it come back with "Route not found" when in fact it looks like there are trains in between? I left JR trains checked and I unchecked flights, walk, private and sleep trains and Nozomi.

Hi Susan,

This train section is currently damaged due to mudslides and heavy rain. As such buses operate along this route and I expect this is also why it does not show up in Hyperdia.

Thanks, Daniel.
However, as I mentioned what I experienced depends on the "starting point". If I go directly to Hyperdia it doesn't find the route. If I go through the link from rome2rio, it does find all the options.... Hopefully the current problems caused by mud slides, etc. will be fixed soon. I will try again in a few weeks. Thanks.

Check the dates that you are searching - this may explain the difference between Rio and direct input.

Hyperdia directly - future date: Oct 31 (doesn't work). Hyperdia via link: Oct 6 -current date. But I do not want to waste your time, computers sometimes have a mind of their own. Hyperdia is quite "capricious". Since I am not buying tickets yet (I am only making itinerary decisions based on availability/timing of transportation), I will wait a bit.
