Hi, we are two adults and a child of 6 years, traveling around Japan this April. Our plan is Tokyo, Kyoto (six days with possible trips to Nara, Matsumoto, Gifu ), then Shikoku(Takamatsu, Naoshima, Ritsurin ) or directly for Fukuoka(possibly boat trip to South Korea and back). In the last case we will do the Shikoku experience on outrerte way back to Tokyo.
Will The Japan rail pass be suiteble for us economically? Or maybe a regional pass?
We will be traveling for 21 days, and the first 8 nights are prebooked( until leaving Kyoto).
Any other tip for our adventure?
value for money?

Hi Karianna,
Thank you for reaching out. You will be traveling all across Japan, but without knowing the exact trip details it is hard to make a comparison with normal fares, having the side trip to Korea makes this even harder. In general, a JR Pass is best suited to cover the longer distances. For example Tokyo - Kyoto or Fukuoka.
I do see a lot of travel, so my advice would be to get a pass for those days that you travel the most. We have a handy tool that you can use to find out if a JR Pass will help you make savings, this is the JR Fare calculator.
Kind regards,
Daniel
