What Japan rail passes will I need?

Hi
My wife are from Australia and are visiting Japan for the Rugby World Cup from Thursday 17 October 2019 to Thursday 31 October 2019 (15 days).
We arrive in Tokyo International airport on 17 October and catch a connecting flight to Oita the same day.
We are staying in Oita from Thursday 17 October to Monday 21 October 2019 (4 nights).
We would like to travel by train while in Oita and the surrounding area.
On Monday 21 October we would like to travel from Oita to Kyoto by train.
We are staying in Kyoto from Monday 21 October to Friday 25 October 2019 (4 nights).
We would like to travel by train while in Kyoto and the surrounding area.
We would like to travel by train from Kyoto to Tokyo on Friday 25 October 2019.
We are staying in Tokyo from Friday 25 October to Thursday 31 October 2019 (6 nights).
We would like to travel by train while in Tokyo and the surrounding area.
We leave Tokyo International airport on Thursday 31 October 2019.

Can you advise what is the best Japan rail pass or passes for us?

Hi Dougal and Debbie Whitton,

I hope to visit Japan for the RWC 2019 myself :)

For the Japan Rail Pass, I would either look at a 7-day JR Pass for Oita - Kyoto - Tokyo, or take a 14 day JR Pass and use it for day trips out of Oita, Tokyo and perhaps elsewhere. For the 7-day JR Pass, I can say for sure that it is a good purchase. The 14-day JR Pass would depend where you want to go from Oita and Tokyo.
