Hello, I will be visiting Japan with my husband in October this year. Below is our itinerary:
Oct 1-6 - Tokyo
Oct 6-11 - Osaka (where our hotel is), Kyoto and Gifu for Takayama Festival on Oct 9
Oct 11-13 - Back to Tokyo
We are new to the shinkansen system as I’ve only visited Tokyo the last time I went to Japan in 2019. Please advise on which JR Pass should we purchase and will we purchase it on Oct 6 when we leave for Osaka?

Hi there,
I recommend using a 7day JR Pass for this route. The cost of the pass is similar to a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto, now you get 7-days of unlimited travel for the same price.
The pass will also cover travel to Kyoto, Gifu and Takayama.
