HI, I put in a trip to travel from Tokyo Haneda to Hiroshima, then Hiroshima to Kyoto for a day trip to Nara, then to take the train from Kyoto to Tokyo.
The planner says that the trains require the Mizuho or Nozomi trains, but the JR Pass says its only for people who do not need those trains.
Can you tell me what pass I need to buy or if I need to purchase my tickets ahead of time for each of these separate legs of the journey?
Thank you.
What pass do I need to buy if the JR Pass does not include Nozomi and Mizuho trips
Hi there,
You do not need Nozomi or Mizuho trains for your itinerary and a JR Pass would definitely be your best option. The Nozomi/Mizuho trains are faster than regular Shinkansen services but they go to the same places as the regular services and are typically used more by commuters, hence why they are not included in the JR Pass. If you have any difficulty planning I’d suggest using the Japan Travel website - I’ve linked an example journey of Tokyo —> Hiroshima, and ticked the ‘Japan Rail Pass’ box to show routes that can be done with the JR Pass.
Kind regards,
Alexis
