Hello,
I'm going to travel to Japan in july.
My question is about when I must activate my jr pass if I buy a regional pass.
In fact, I'm going to buy a regional JR pass, Kansai Area, from 31st of july to 6th of august, and just I'm travelling from Tokyo to Hiroshima at 31st of july.
Then, I can buy a simple ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto, for example, and use my regional pass when I cross Kyoto to Hiroshima without get out the train? or I need to get out the train at Kyoto, activate my regional pass at the station and take an other train from Kyoto to Hiroshima?
Or it's better buy a simple ticket from Tokyo to Hiroshima?
Thanks
When must I activate my pass?

Hi there,
The main condition is that you need to have a valid ticket when you travel. This means you could get a normal ticket for the area not included in the pass, and then use the pass as soon as you enter the validity area.
The point of attention here is that your pass needs to be valid and activated, and JR West passes can't be activated in Tokyo. So if that's the case, it would make sense to get off and Kyoto (maybe enjoy a nice lunch break in the process) activate your pass and then travel on.
Kind regards,
Daniel
