Worth to use jr pass for osaka to kyoto, takayama and tokyo

1.) Yes, you can cover all of these with the JR Pass.

2.) You can use all Shinkansen lines in Japan. What is not included are the train services named Nozomi and Mizuho. On these routes you can use the Hikari and Sakura Shinkansen trains instead.

3.) You can do so in person, at any JR station.

Is it worth the money to purchase jr pass for these routes?

If we use exchange order to exchange jr pass at jr counter, do that mean the jr pass is activated? Or first use of jr pass just considered as activation?
