We are a group of 4 traveling to Japan for 10 nights at the end of March. Here is our itinerary:
7 nights in Tokyo,
Travel to Nagano, stay in Osaka for one night, and Kyoto for two and then back to Narita airport.
Tokyo → Nagano
Nagano → Osaka
Osaka → Kyoto
Kyoto → Himeji
Kyoto → Tokyo
Tokyo → Narita
We would only be using the JR pass for 5 days, would it be worth getting the 7 day pass or should we book individual tickets?

Based on your itinerary, a 7-day Nationwide JR Pass is a great option for seamless travel. It removes the need to purchase individual tickets for each leg, though you will still need to reserve your seats for the Shinkansen journeys.
While you are in Tokyo, the pass also covers the JR Yamanote Line, which is very convenient for reaching major sights.
