Hello - We will be travelling from Narita to Ikebukuro and then to Nerima on the Seibu Ikebukuro line. Thereafter we will be travelling back and forth on various day trips to areas of Tokyo including going out and back in twice on the Odakyu Odawara line/ Odakyu Tama line to Kurokawa and on the Keio line to Wakabadai. We will be in the Tokyo area for a month.Should we be purchasing a Japan Rail Pass or is there some other kind of ticketing for what we plan? Thank you.

Hi there,

Just out of interest what will you do in Nerima? I used to live in Fuji-midai myself, which is very close to there.

If you stay in and around Tokyo a depending on the amount of travel you do in a day it is better to buy local tickets or a day pass. The JR-Pass itself is great for longer distance travel (for instance Tokyo - Kyoto) but is not very economic for just Tokyo. Depending on how long you go to Kurokawa in Kanagawa one of the Hakone Passes may be of interest.

If you want to visit places in Tokyo, try to combine them because every time you go back to Nerima you have to switch train company and that can get rather expansive

Hope this is of help!
-Daniel.

Thank you Daniel-san -- very useful information. In answer to your question about Nerima -- we are staying in a flat there for a week before visiting our son and his family -- they live in Japan.

Hi Again,

Thank you for letting me know! I was curious since it is not a place known for tourism.
I just looked the station up again, I forgot that it is also connected to the Toei Oedo Subway Line. Which may be a better option if you plan to venture into Tokyo. You can also buy a Tokyo One-Day Free Tickets allows for unlimited travel on " Toei subways, Toei buses, the Toei Streetcar (Toden) Arakawa Line, and the Nippori-Toneri Liner, as well as Tokyo Metro and JR East trains within Tokyo's 23 wards for one day." and costs ¥1,580

Enjoy your travels!
-Daniel

Forgot to add that:

Additionally a one day pass for just the Toei and Tokyo subway is available for 1000Yen and can be bought from any ticket machine.

Thank you very much once again Daniel-san. We are going to print out all the information that you have given us -- and buy the ticket(s) that you have recommended. You have been so helpful.
