Me and family will be travelling to Niseko and sapporo for 5 days. Is it a good idea to purchase the JR Pass. We will be arriving at Chitose, overnight at Niseko and spend the rest of the holiday in Sapporo. Then fly back out of Chitose.

Likely you will simply be best of to buy normal tickets here. Most of your travel is located in central Hokkaido. You'd have to do a little more travel for a JR Pass to be useful.
